Grand Theft Auto... (You'd think it'd be more exiting) 3

by  latincub83,   Apr 18, 2008

Pros:  MUCH room for improvement (can't get much worse).

Cons:  Boring, lack of purpose or solid story line, horrible graphics, a mess.

The Bottom Line:  There are much better games than this for the PS2 that would be much more FUN to play with.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

My first experience with GTA3 was a friend's house when it first came out. Excited I was, c'mon, you're a bad-a** with the ability to do WHATEVER you want to do! WOOHOO! And that's when reality kicked in; first I had to learn the stupidly complicated button sequences, then learn the roles of everyone else around, learn rules and long story short it took around 30 minutes before I could start playing (I can't really commit that much to video games, reason why I HATE RPGs) so this title as a fast-play just doesn't cut it. So I played for 5 minutes and then everyone else wanted a go, so I had to let it go. A few years later I picked it up again thinking, "well, maybe if I try a little harder It'll be fun; since I know the basics". WRONG! I saw myself running aimlessly thru the big city (by the way the graphics couldn't be more half-a**ed and choppy, so BIG zero in that aspect) ending up getting a car and driving over people. (That was actually kind of fun for the first 5 minutes) The problem I had with it, mostly is that there's absolutely NO intellectual meat in this at all. You play an idiotic zombie who (for all I care) could just stand there and not do anything, and the game would be exactly the same. It's a cat / mouse (who wants power by doing real-life stupid childish things) game. Really, they should rate it "I" for Immature. I can see how they target-marketed this game for kids who have enough money to buy a ps2 but still think they're "real in the getto" and use its main character as a hero. (The same kind of people who love Scarface). Sound design was decent, but not much better than any other barely-passable game. Graphics as I said before are seriously poor (and it's sad because they keep the exact same look thru-out the series which, specially after playing other ps2 games such as Tekken 5 look distinctly dated) and the gameplay is extremely repetitive. If you love this, then I'm sorry... not just because of your choice of games but because of your lack of values. Ta-Da
