Author's Review
Purchased the HNAS1 to create a stand alone FTP server, and file storage unit. Setup went very well. If you drive is not recognized when set at Master, try using Cable Select. Web interface allows setting users and folders permissions. Passwords MUST be in lower case letter. The folder and user permissions, No Access, Read only, Write Only, DO NOT apply to the FTP. You can access the FTP server as Anonumous, but the Anonymous Root folder is not accessible by ohter users. Since Anonymous had no Write permissions, you can't add file to share. Since the permissions set for users does not affect the FTP users, your can only have FTP users with full access to files. As a FTP server, it is useless. Also, XP has issues accessing the Linux OS, and can only be used by mapping the drive and using the "Logon As" option. Hopefully, some nice Linux programmer will fix this os.
A email to Hawkings support got me a updated firmware, which broke the FTP. And a Manual I already had.
