My first appliance

I recently moved into my own place without anything. Well as with most people in their early 20's the first appliance you need is a blender.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love Margaritas and I have Margarita get togethers every Saturday.

I shopped around for a blender at Wal-Mart and Target. Wal-Mart had a larger selection but they were mostly General Electric and few were Hamilton Beach. I ended up buying this particular blender at Target because of the price and the Hamilton Beach name. I believe I overpaid, it was $24.99 before tax.

Setup was a cinch, but made me realize why I only paid $25 for it. The container is plastic, the base does not lock and the lid is flimsy.

So now we go for a Margarita test run. The first time I used this thing I thought it was going to explode in my face. The motor had this nice burning smell coming out of it and the blade sounded like it was about to turn into a million pieces of shrapnel with my face as the target. It did settle down once the larger pieces of ice were crushed so I stopped it. But there were still chunks of ice in it, I had to pulse the blender on the "Ice Breaker" function for about 5 minutes to get the slushy consistency that I like.

I only use the blender for mixed drinks, I am not sure how it would do with other things. But on the mixed drinks side I will give this blender a low rating. It works for now but I am afraid that it wont last long with its Margarita duty.
