Author's Review

The Proctor-Silex 5 Speed Mixer has been a blessing in disguise! I’ve had been using a 15 year old hand mixer for the past 2 years . . . and actually never used it much because it was just so old. Being the bargain shopper that I am, off I went to Walmart to find a new mixer.

I didn’t need anything fancy, just something for mash potatoes, mixing cake and brownie mix, and maybe beating eggs. I saw the white Proctor-Silex 5 Speed Mixer for $9.99 and decided to give it a whirl. I figured at that price why not? I could always return it if it wasn’t what I needed.

Well, it ended up being more than what I needed, and that’s just fine with me!

Proctor-Silex is a division of Hamilton Beach products. Hamilton Beach is a well-known and reputable company that sells appliances. I own a Hamilton Beach food processor and am very happy with it as well!

~ Features ~

~ 5 Speeds ~
The setting on the handle start at 0 (off) and go to 5 (fastest speed). Depending on what you are mixing and how it needs to be mixed, depends on the speed you choose. If you need to beat an egg, setting 1 would work fine, but if you are whipping cream, you would want to use setting 5.

~ Bowl Rest ~
This is great when you need to stop mixing to add more ingredients. You can leave the beaters in and rest the side of the mixer on the bowl. If you are using a small bowl though, you may want to make sure it is stable before you walk away. I have never had any problems though.

~ Easy Detachable Chrome Beaters ~
The beaters detach VERY EASILY by pushing in the power switch. This is one of the easiest detach button I’ve ever used!

~ Power & Cord ~
120V – 60 Hz - .08A - If you need more than this, then you should be using a heavy duty mixer. Also, the power cord is a nice length as well. Over 5’ long, you don’t have to stand right by an outlet to use this mixer.

~ Cleaning ~
Cleaning this mixer is a breeze! You CANNOT immerse the mixer in water, but you can wipe it with a warm, soapy cloth. And as far and the beaters go, those you can hand wash or throw into the dish washer!

~ Customer Service ~
I have never had to deal with their customer service, so I cannot tell you how well they handle problems or complaints. Here are their toll free numbers though in case you need some assistance.

US 1-800-851-8900
Canada 1-800-267-2826
Mexico 1-800-71-16-100

~ My Experience ~
I have been using this mixer for well over 2 months now. I’ve used it to mash potatoes and mix cake and brownie mix. This mixer is all I could ever need in a hand mixer. For the price, and the name, I feel very satisfied with this purchase!
