I love toasted bagels and waffles, and with 3 children I do tend to buy many different types of foods that need toasting.
I do own a big toaster oven that is great, but sometimes you just want to pop your waffles into a small regular toaster. (less work)
Or let the kids do it themselves.
I purchased the Proctor Silex smart toaster for two reasons.
First being that it had wide slots that would fit my fresh bagels that I like to buy.
It really stinks when you have a nice big freshly FAT bagel and then you have to SQUISH it to get it in your toaster, and then practically rip it apart to get it back out when its done toasting.
Second it has a smart toast feature which boasted that it helped prevent burning.
I found out that the smart toast feature is worthless.
The toaster seems to become so preoccupied with making sure your food doesn't burn that it doesn't even fully toast it.
It is like I just take my finger off of the slot when a few seconds later its popping back up.
The fact that I need to push the button back down 4-5 times while toasting is a real pain. Especially when my kids get so excited to hear the darn thing pop and then have to face the reality that it was a cruel joke and their waffles aren't done yet.
Also if you want to toast more then one set of waffles you must wait a few minutes in between to let the toaster cool down or you will face the wrath of having to stand there pushing the button down twice as many times as you did with the first set.
Over all the toaster is nice looking, and the wide slots do fit most bigger bagels.
The fact that it can't toast even on the highest setting without having to have its button pushed down a handful of times is my biggest complaint.
It is easy to clean up, and the flip open slot on the bottom of the toast makes for an easy way to assure that you get all of the crumbs cleaned out.
My old toaster had to be shaken upside down over the sink.
I think this toaster would be good for someone who just wanted a cheap toaster to use occasionally. But for someone who likes to use it on a regular basis you might want to skip on this one and go for one that works better.
