Author's Review

This system was shipped way before its time. The system kernel has so many bugs I'm shocked that Intel shipped it.

I loaded the system with a Tera Byte of storage and the system took an INCREDIBLE 24+ hours to initalize. All during this time the system appeared to be ready but kept failing due to timeouts.

Once I had the system running the next day It failed and put one drive off line. It took another 24+ hours to reset the system.

The system is incompatible with Veritas BackUp Exec software and Veritas states it does not support Samba kernels. (Thats another story) To try and solve this I turned on the Active Directory feature in the Intel software. HOWEVER I could not get it to work. I called Intel Tech support and their reply was "It Works for Us." And that was the only supprot they offered. I had to sniffer the problem myself. It turns out that the AD feature syncs off the time clock for Kerbos and Intel failed to put support for Daylight saving time in. Time has been one of the most debugged routines since Y2k. What Jr programer at intel doesn't know that. I had to set the time off by 1 hour to get the system to work with AD. Intels response was after October 28th (when daylight savings ends) the problem will go away. (Yea brilliant Intel).

Once I turned on the AD feature the system would no longer let Windows browse the system. You could only map drives to shares. Seems you loose Guest browsing of the root folder with the AD feature on. So I had to turn off the AD feature again.

I had to sniff out the problem with the Veritas software. It seems the Jr programers at Intel made another rookie programming mistake. If any software package asks the Intel box if a path exists and leaves the trailing slash (ie \\Server\Share\Path1\) The intel box returns the path does not exist. The last time I saw a mistake like this was in the 1980's. Again Intel says It works for them!

Incase you think this is just one broken box.... I brought two and they both have the same issues. Don't buy this peice of junk. Hey Intel stick to processors!
