Epinions Inexpensive and reliable

by  guzmos,  Aug 22, 2008
Pros: Strong connection, easy set-up, reliable service
Cons: None that I can find
The Bottom Line: This is a very good unit that is made well and it performs well. Very simple to use and maintain.
Review: I bought a laptop in 2007 that had built-in wireless, so I thought it was time to upgrade my home network. I purchased a refurbished NetGear WGT624 wireless router in March of 2007. I only paid $19.50 for it, so I didn't expect too much from it, but I ...

Epinions Netgear is the best router company, hands down

by  tokar,  Feb 20, 2007
Pros: Firmware upgrades easy and do fix stuff Connection rarely drops Good coverage/speed Supports UPnP
Cons: Port forwarding doesnt work as preferred Cant use router without finishing initial setup wizard
The Bottom Line: It is a great router if obtained at the right price. Excellent coverage, excellent speeds. Great appearance. Initial setup wizard a pain if you dont follow the manuals closely.
Review: I have used a Linksys WRT54GC (which USPS lost in transit to Linksys for an RMA...thanks USPS) and a Hawking HWR54G in the same exact setup as I have the Netgear WGT624NA currently in. Of them all, the Netgear has been the best so far. (Netgear puts ...

Epinions Setup was easy since I have past Netgear router experience.

by  jf103287,  Apr 17, 2008
Pros: Similar to older netgear model installation menu/process, so should make for an easy upgrade path.
Cons: None that I could find - though I only performed the install.
The Bottom Line: If looking to upgrade from an earlier/older model of Netgear router, this one seems a good choice to make.
Review: A neighbor of mine needed help configuring his wireless network so he called me to ask if I could walk him through the install on the phone. I am in the IT field and he's WAY not! :) My first question was the router model number so I could look up ...

Epinions Super!

by  pshamilton,  Sep 9, 2007
Pros: Easy set up with CD.
Cons: NONE
The Bottom Line: I like it, I love it, and want some more of it.
Review: I had trouble selecting a wireless router. I was at all sorts of sites looking for help and recoms. My son is a tech and he suggested a few but it all comes down to finally pointing your finger and saying "That one please". I bought from Frys.com and got ...

Epinions Powerful, Pretty, and Piece of Cake to Install

by  quasihero,  Jan 23, 2005
Pros: Easy Setup
Great Connection - at 104Mbps, streaming data works well
Good-looking design
Cons: Need to have some knowledge of networking
Need specific PC card to reach 104Mbps
The Bottom Line: Can't see how other products could be better.
Review: INTRODUCTION: I finally jumped into the modern world and got high-speed internet and my wife wanted to be able to roam the house with her laptop computer. So i found a great deal on amazon.com: $90 for this item in a package with the WG511T PC wireless ...

Epinions Great Wireless Router for the Price!

by  mschmalf,  Feb 11, 2006
Pros: Great feature set and good-looking device.
Cons: Lacking ability to change router logon name. Only password can be changed.
The Bottom Line: You can hardly go wrong with this router. Read my review for more information.
Review: I've had this router for about 7 months now and find it to be quite nice. It looks good and performs well. Note that this is a Pre-802.11n router. Now that the standard is now final there may have been changes that may cause problems working with true ...

Epinions WGT624 ROUTER

by  larman1,  Oct 21, 2004
Pros: QUICK AND EASY BASIC SET-UP
Cons: SECURITY SETTINGS ARE NOT AUTOMATICALLY TURNED ON. POOR DOCUMENTATION FOR THE MORE ADVANCED SETTINGS
The Bottom Line: VERY EASY TO INSTALL EVEN FOR BEGINNERS. THE SPEED IS DEFINATELY AN ASSET AS WELL AS THE COVERAGE
Review: I RECENTLY PURCHASED NETGEAR'S WGT624 ROUTER ALONG WITH THE WG511T WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER... I PAID $99.00 FOR THE ROUTER AND $79.00 FOR THE CARD FROM CIRCUIT CITY...THERE IS $80.00 REBATE UNTIL 10/23/04. I DID MY HOMEWORK WHEN RESEARCHING WHICH ...

Epinions Simple and Fast

by  peophd,  Sep 25, 2004
Pros: Easy to install. Mindlessly simple to run.
Cons: Nothing to report so far.
Review: I bought the router this afternoon. Brought it home and plugged it all in following the folded instructions sheet. Very simple direct instructions. I started up my wired computer; my wireless laptop was already running in the room. Both machines ...

Epinions Great Speed, Great Range, and Quite Schizophrenic

by  capricorn1,  Feb 2, 2005
Pros: Much faster than a comparable Linksys router with much greater wireless range.
Cons: Certain combinations of router firmware and adapter drivers are unstable at best.
The Bottom Line: Fast like a race car; temperamental like a race car. Buy it only if you're prepared for the upkeep.
Review: I bought the WGT624 (WGT624 v2 to be exact) because I was very impressed with the Netgear MR814 (802.11b - 11 Mbps) I had purchased for my daughter to take to college. While I was setting the MR814 up, I noticed that the throughput on the Netgear's wired ...

Epinions A Mixed Bag

by  tomilius,  Jan 25, 2005
Pros: Plenty of Features, Good Security, Affordable, High Range, High Bandwidth
Cons: Instability, Bad firmware, Sluggish clearly-outsourced support, SPI firewall not configurable, Missing advertised logs
The Bottom Line: All the makings of a good router but poor firmware. Buy it if you have time to mess around or wait.
Review: The WGT624 is rather a mixed bag. Some people have problems with it and others don't--however, many do. If you are a newbie or would like a hassle-free, stable router, don't touch this; at least, not until they get a GOOD firmware update and stop using ...
