Travel Tripod Light Enough for Backpacking, Stable enough for SLR

by  scharf_steven,   May 7, 2003

Pros:  Light, small, stable, inexpensive

Cons:  Not as durable as a heavy duty tripod. Silly marking "for digital cameras" on unit.

The Bottom Line:  Great lightweight tripod for travel and hiking/backpacking/XC-Skiing.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

I wanted a lightweight tripod to bring on a trip to Alaska.
I already had a heavy-duty Bogen-Manfrotto tripod, but it
was too big and heavy to consider taking along.

The Velbon can support my Canon EOS5 SLR, even with
my heaviest lens and a flash, as well as my Canon G2
digital camera.

I probably will not extend the center column with the SLR
on it, unless I put some extra weight on the legs.

You can see this and other travel tripod models at
www.traveltripod.com.

I bought mine new from Henry's eBay store for $68. They
sell for about $90 in camera stores.
